Research Triangle Park, N.C. - Triangle Transit Authority (TTA), on behalf of other area transit providers, has received a technology grant for the fiscal years 2003 and 2004 from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
The grant, worth approximately $1.5 million, will be used to procure a regional bus fare collection system. The agencies involved are Capital Area Transit (CAT), Cary Transit (C-Tran), Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) and Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) with TTA serving as the lead agency.
"A new regional bus fare collection system will allow customers to make seamless transfers from one system to another," said John Claflin, TTA general manager. "We are happy that NCDOT has recognized the importance of regional public transportation."
TTA expects that the regional bus fare collection system will be operational in 2004. The system will allow for integration with the regional rail system when it begins operation in late 2007.
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. For more information, visit www.rideTTA.org or call (919)549-9999.
