Research Triangle Park, N.C. - Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) presented John McNair of Durham with a plaque Wednesday in recognition of his promotion to senior bus operator.
The presentation occurred at the beginning of TTA's Board of Trustees meeting. William Smith, vice chair of the TTA Board of Trustees, presented the plaque to McNair.
McNair said he was happy and proud to receive the promotion. "I think it's an honor," he said. "All my hard work has paid off, and TTA has recognized that. I thank God for making all of this possible."
Qualifications for promotion to senior bus operator include:
- Mimimum five years of documented transit driving experience
- No preventable accidents for a minimum of two years
- Excellent attendance record
- Excellent customer relations skills
"John has a good relationship with his passengers and does his best to make sure he is providing them with safe, reliable transportation," said Laurie Barrett, director of TTA bus operations.
McNair's new responsibilities tutoring junior operators and teaching new employees. He said he is excited to serve as a mentor to new employees. Atwood Perry, a senior bus operator, mentored McNair when McNair started working for TTA.
McNair has been with TTA for four years. Prior to working for TTA, McNair drove a van for a daycare center. McNair also was a printer for 30 years.
"Meeting people is the best part about my job with TTA," McNair said. "It's never boring. It's always something different every day."
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. In addition to its regional bus services and commuter resources, TTA plans to implement a 35-mile rail transit system with 16 stations connecting Durham, RTP, Cary and Raleigh, with shuttles linking RDU International Airport and RTP.
