TTA And Dillon Supply Company Reach Purchase Agreement
On Downtown Raleigh Site
Research Triangle Park N.C. – The Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) and Dillon Supply Company have reached a purchase agreement on 6.14 acres in Downtown Raleigh. TTA will pay Dillon Supply Company $9.825 million dollars for the property that has housed the industrial and construction supplier since 1914.
In announcing the sale, TTA General Manager John Claflin said, “we are pleased that we have been able to reach this significant milestone with Dillon Supply. Our talks in the last year have been friendly and the agreement will allow TTA to stay on schedule with its with plans for a regional rail station on the site.”
Closing on the 6.14 acres at 216 S. West Street will take place on or before February 25, 2005. Dillon Supply will agree to move from the site no later than December 1, 2005 to allow TTA to begin construction on a rail station that will be part of the 12-station, 28-mile Regional Rail Transit System between Durham and Raleigh.
TTA Board Chair Carter Worthy said the agreement with Dillon Supply allowing the rail station on the site “will help create a stronger and energetic downtown. TTA looks forward to working with city leaders, area business owners and residents to encourage transit oriented development in Downtown Raleigh that we can be proud of.”
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit and vanpool services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. Bus service is available to Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, RDU International Airport, RTP and Raleigh. The Triangle Transit Authority also provides commuter resources and hosts GoTriangle.org, the new on-line resource for the public transportation information in the Triangle. TTA plans to implement a rail transit system DU International Airport and RTP. The rail transit system is expected to be operationalwith stations connecting Durham, RTP, Cary and Raleigh, with shuttles linking R in 2008.
