Research Triangle Park, N. C. - New and existing riders of four transit systems in the Triangle have a new tool to get from place to place. Starting Thursday, October 16, GoTriangle.org will provide transportation connections on the web for Capital Area Transit (CAT), Chapel Hill Transit (CHT), Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) and the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA).
"We wanted to provide an easier way for passengers to plan to get from one area to another," says TTA General Manager John Claflin. "Thanks to the hard work of staff at CAT, CHT, DATA and TTA, we now have a regional high-tech method to plan a trip on a network of available routes to assist in providing door-to-door services in Durham, Orange and Wake Counties."
Users of the software can type in a starting point, destination, and adjust the time and date of their trip. The GoTriangle.org "Plan A Trip" will do the rest, informing the rider of any necessary transfers and connections between transit systems. Riders also will be able to learn the amount of the fare and how far they may have to walk to access transit to complete their trip. GoTriangle.org also provides direct links to all the route search pages for the regional public transportation agencies, and RDU Airport as well as Greyhound, Trailways, SmartCommute, and traffic cameras. (For those without web access, telephone assistance will be available by calling 919-549-9999.)
Local radio commercials, posters and handouts will publicize the new web site's unveiling. The launch of GoTriangle.org comes on "Communities in Motion" day. The one-day event by transit systems in North Carolina and the United States celebrates public transportation and its benefits.
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. In addition to its regional bus services, commuter resources and participation in GoTriangle.org, TTA plans to implement a 35-mile rail transit system with 16 stations connecting Durham, RTP, Cary and Raleigh, with shuttles linking RDU International Airport and RTP. The rail transit system is expected to be operational in late 2007 or early 2008. For more information, visit www.rideTTA.org or call (919)549-9999. |
