Research Triangle Park, N.C. – In a collaboration with local public transportation providers, the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) has redesigned two of the region’s popular transit Web sites.
In announcing the launch of the new GoTriangle.org and Redefinetravel.org,TTA Commuter Resources Director John Tallmadge said changes to the sites follow months of customer research and collaboration with the region’s other public transportation providers. Other transit agencies include Capital Area Transit, Durham Area Transit Authority, Chapel Hill Transit, C-Tran, and North Carolina State University’s Wolfline. “With ridership increasing on bus systems in the Triangle, and a growing number of people looking to avoid the high cost of gas, we wanted to give our customers and potential customers a great way to get all the information they need to make their traveling choices..”
The GoTriangle.org site, which had more than 1.5 million page visitors last year, has been completely redesigned with easier access to information about transportation choices in the region. New or improved features include:
- Easier access to bus information such as the transit trip planner, schedules, and fares
- Updates on detours and service changes
- Better information about and resources for vanpooling, carpooling, biking, walking, telework, employer services, and the Emergency Ride Home program
- An on-line store offering regional passes and promotional items
- Stories about “Kick Gas” commuters who use each of these traveling options
The Redefinetravel.org site, which had 28,000 site visitors in its first year, allows college and university students in the Triangle to use public transportation for shopping and other activities. For those who have first-time jitters about riding the bus, the “How to Ride” page is full of helpful tips. The site also features GoogleTM maps with suggested bus destinations from Duke, Meredith, NCCU, NCSU, Shaw and UNC.
The site’s funky, well-designed pages are easy to navigate and each page touts the financial, environmental, and fitness benefits of the various alternative travel modes. “Students can start the trend of improving our air quality by making a habit of using alternative transportation, and this website is intended to spark that change,” says site designer Charlotte Hanks. The site also pushes a benefit especially attractive to money-strapped college students: savings at the gas pump.
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit and vanpool services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. Bus service is available to Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, Hillsborough, RDU International Airport, RTP and Raleigh.
TTA plans to implement a 28-mile rail transit system with 12 stations connecting Durham, RTP, Cary and Raleigh, with shuttles linking RDU International Airport and RTP. For more information, visit www.rideTTA.org or call (919) 549-9999.
