Research Triangle Park, N.C. – The TTA Board of Trustees has elected Sig Hutchinson as its Vice-Chair. Hutchinson replaces M. Carter Worthy who served as Vice-Chair since October 2006. Worthy will remain on the board as a representative for the City of Raleigh.
Hutchinson, appointed to the TTA Board of Trustees by the Raleigh City Council, is publisher of The Raleigh Downtowner, and is a professional speaker and consultant.
“This is such an exciting time for the TTA as the community is becoming much more engaged in how we want transit to look in our region," Hutchinson said. "We all agree that transit will be a key part of our future and now it is so exciting for me personally to work along with the community and talented staff at TTA in helping shape our choices."
Hutchinson has helped transform the region by successfully leading three bond referendums since 2000 totaling $88 million dollars for open space preservation, parks and greenways and has been acknowledged as a “Tarheel of the Week” by the News & Observer and "Volunteer of the Year" for Wake County.
TTA is governed by a thirteen member Board of Trustees. Ten members are appointed by the region's principal municipalities and counties and three members are appointed by the North Carolina Secretary of Transportation.
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit and vanpool services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. Bus service is available to Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, Hillsborough, RDU International Airport, RTP and Raleigh.
The Triangle Transit Authority also provides commuter resources and hosts GoTriangle.org, the on-line resource for public transportation information in the Triangle. For more information, visit www.rideTTA.org or call (919) 549-9999.
