Research Triangle Park, N.C. – Triangle Transit ridership for October 2007 set new records.
“Thanks to our riders, we’re pleased that we’ve hit a new milestone,” said Sig Hutchinson, Chairman of the TTA Board of Trustees. “Transit is an important part of our future. With 100 dollar a barrel oil looming, our work and the work of the Special Transit Advisory Committee are vitally important as the region looks seriously at transit as part of the solution.”
Ridership was 87,721 in October, compared with 82,662 in October 2006, a 6.1% increase over the same month last year. October’s ridership is the equivalent of taking 30,000 auto trips off the road.
It’s the second time this year that Triangle Transit ridership has set records. Ridership for the first six months of 2007 hit a new high and TTA’s ridership gains remain higher than the national average.
Triangle Transit’s vanpools serving 13 counties remain strong. There were 62 vanpools in October 2007, compared with 61 last October.
TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a variety of transit and vanpool services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. Regional bus service is available to Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, Hillsborough, RDU International Airport, Research Triangle Park (RTP) and Raleigh.
Triangle Transit also provides commuter resources and hosts www.rideTTA.org and www.GoTriangle.org, on-line resources for public transportation information in the Triangle.
