Research Triangle Park, N.C. - New bus services to the retail employment centers at Brier Creek Commons and Alexander Place Promenade begin operation on Monday, November 7.
The Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) and the cities of Durham and Raleigh have teamed up to provide these services. TTA has taken the lead on securing grant funds from the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for services that provide new access to job centers previously unserved with public transportation. The NCDOT grant of $100,000 provides seed money to start these services. TTA is also sharing in the costs of the service with Durham and Raleigh.
TTA General Manager John Claflin says, “Working together TTA, CAT and DATA have been able to fill this gap in public transportation service to an important retail employment center. This is a great example of the benefits of seamless coordination of services in our region.”
CAT and DATA bus services will each offer nine trips per day, Monday through Saturday to this area at the intersection of US 70 and Brier Creek Parkway. The first buses are scheduled to arrive in time for early shift workers to be on the job by 7am. The last buses of the day are scheduled to depart Brier Creek and Alexander Place at 10pm.
TTA also will provide connections to Brier Creek Commons for people needing to travel mid-day or in the evening. Combined, the agencies provide hourly service to this location between 7am and 10pm.
