Re-route Timber/Aversboro Section of Route 102 to ConAgra and White Oak Shopping Center
Which Areas of the Triangle are served by Route 102?
Route 102 links Garner's Forest Hills Shopping Center and Timber Dr./Aversboro Rd areas to Downtown Raleigh's Moore Square Station.
Why Propose this Change?
TTA’s Route 102 between Raleigh and Garner has seen its ridership hold steady, and more recently, decline- while other routes have seen ridership grow. Two years ago, TTA adjusted Route 102 to serve higher density development along Timber Dr and Aversboro Rd, and added service hours to extend the service later into the evening. Despite these changes, ridership did not increase.
In the meantime, TTA has also received several inquiries about service to White Oak Shopping Center, where many people would like to work and shop. While timing new route alternatives, TTA staff identified a timing pattern that makes it easy to serve both White Oak shopping center and the ConAgra plant on Jones Sausage Rd.
The goal of this proposal is to increase ridership on Route 102 by accessing these two new employment centers while preserving the most productive stop on Route 102, the Forest Hills Shopping Center.
What did the public say?
"My self living a few miles from White Oak Shopping Center agree that this change would help my commute and others as well."-Anonymous
"You should add a Saturday schedule every hour and add a route down Garner Road."-Anonymous
"As a new rider, keeping Timber Drive on the route would be best for me. If I had to drive to Forest Hills, I would drive to downtown Raleigh."-Anonymous
"As long as I can still get on at Forest Hills I'll be fine."-Anonymous
TTA Responds: This new route configuration will allow TTA to bring employees to ConAgra and White Oak shopping center in Garner with convenient stops at both locations. Forest Hills remains one of the more productive stops in the TTA bus system, and it will continue to be served by this new routing.
At this time, there is no plan for TTA to provide Saturday service in Garner. If these changes increase the ridership on Route 102 during the week, however, the long-term likelihood of service expansions in Garner will increase. |
