Choose the time you wish to arrive or depart, then select either the "Departing" or "Arriving" radio button. Click the SUBMIT button.
2. If the Trip Planner does not understand your input for either the starting point or destination, it will suggest a variety of alternatives in a list that says "Found multiple results, select!" Choose the item that best matches yoru input, or click the "Change" link to the right of the list and try typing the location another way, perhaps only using the street name, or a nearby landmark. The Trip Planner will then provide you with 3 itineraries that may be used to complete your trip. Put a check in the boxes near the trips that seem best for you, and then click the "Show Selected Trip Options" button for detailed information about that trip. Skip to Item #3 below to continue these instructions.
Using Printed Maps and Schedules
3. Find your Route on the System Map. The TTA System Map shows all the TTA regional bus routes. Be sure to look at the Weekday Map for weekday travel and the Saturday Map for travel on Saturdays. Use the system map to locate the route closest to your origin and destination points. You may find that you'll need to ride more than one route to reach your destination. In that case, you'll want to read about Transfers in the Fares section.
Click Here to view a map and directions to the RTP Bus Transfer Center.
4. Choose your travel times on the Schedules.
TTA schedules are listed numerically and in two sections: Weekday (Monday-Friday) schedules; and Saturday schedules. Each schedule includes time points indicating the departure time at key bus stops. Click Here to view TTA hours of operation and holiday schedule.
To use the schedule:
First, make sure you have selected the correct schedule(s). Do you have the right day of week? (Monday - Friday or Saturday).
Second, find the section of the schedule that meets your needs. Look for either AM or PM travel times and the correct direction (the bus travels from the stop listed at the left to the stops listed at the right).
Third, find the stop location on the map (called a time point) that is nearest to your actual desired departure location, then look up that time point on the schedule. Departure times are listed below the time point names. Remember that the listed departure time is only for that specific time point. The bus will also make other stops where TTA, CAT, DATA, and Chapel Hill Transit Bus Stop signs are located. If you plan to get on the bus at a stop between two time points, you'll need to adjust the time accordingly.
When reading the schedule, remember that the times are listed from left to right. Your arrival time will be to the right of your departure time. Please check the map and schedule again prior to your return trip.
5. Check your Fare.
Now that you know which route(s) to take and when to travel, you'll want consider the fare. Fares on all routes are $2.00, but you may be able to save money by purchasing TTA Passes in advance, or using a transfer.
Waiting for the Bus
Arrive at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before your bus is scheduled to arrive. Be sure that you are standing on the correct side of the road for the direction in which you want to be traveling. If you are not certain where your stop is , please call 549-9999 and press "1". As a bus approaches, check the destination sign above the windshield to make sure you board the bus you want. The destination sign will include the route number and destination of the bus.
